30 Rock S02E13
“Succession”
Everyone was looking to move on up tonight. Jack was finally told that he was going to get the GE chairmanship, Liz was going to be named his successor, and Tracy was going to secure his legacy by creating a porn-video game hybrid.
We weren’t held in suspense for long with regards to Jack’s promotion, though Devon Banks managed to usurp the throne. Don Guise is in a diabetic coma, which is good because I was convinced that he had died when I saw him on the couch. Rip Torn is great as the chairman of GE and to lose him would be a shame. Kathy is the new chairwoman and Devon will be the man behind the curtain pulling the strings. This will certainly set up some great conflicts for the rest of the season, as well as some great sexual innuendo, which always occurs whenever Jack and Devon interact.
Liz got a taste of the corporate life for a little, then she got business drunk, followed by business sick. Following the mediocre “MILF Island,” 30 Rock has been firing on all cylinders. The story and laughs here were crisp and consistent. There was no weak story and, more importantly, no dud jokes. If this is the tone that we have for the rest of the season then I’m very excited.
